As a mother of a non-verbal kindergartner with level 3 Autism, I have always wanted and needed a place like Drew’s Room to take him. A place he could be happy in. A place he could have all the things he actually likes, all at his fingertips. A place that is safe since he’s a notorious eloper! A place he can be himself and be with others like him. A place he could have new experiences to learn and grow- at his pace, his ability. This place didn’t exist. As Drew got older, I noticed more meltdowns at home and couldn’t tell if they were from over or under-stimulation. So I turned his room into a sensory room with a calming cubby. It worked miracles! I didn’t go in realizing I was creating a “sensory room” for his regulation; I was simply doing what I knew worked for my son. As it turned out, it was just that - a sensory place. And I want to create this space for others.
I understand the hardship parents face making sure their children get the services they need while balancing budget, energy, time, therapy, dr. appointments, IEP meetings, and social opportunities. Prior to creating Drew’s Room, I spent the last 10 years of my professional career working in the area of Social Services as case manager for struggling individuals and families. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from the University of Idaho. I am a local business owner of 5 years and bring that background as well as my passion for neurodiverse children to the operations and development of Drew’s Room.
All children must have a waiver signed by a parent/guardian/caregiver before playing. Download waiver below or complete at check-in.
